
The weather has changed in Uttarakhand. There are clouds from the mountains to the plains. Along with this, snowfall on the peaks and light rain in the lower areas has started. Due to the change in the weather, the mercury has also dived and the entire Uttarakhand is in the grip of severe cold. According to the Meteorological Department, clouds will remain in the state on Saturday as well.
Schools closed in Chamoli
Due to snowfall and rain, there will be a holiday in schools and Anganwadi centers up to 12th standard in Chamoli district on Saturday.
Orange alert issued
Heavy snowfall may occur in areas with an altitude of more than 2500 meters. Whereas, hailstorm with thunder and rain are expected in the surrounding lower areas. Cold day conditions may arise in most areas of the state. Orange alert has been issued for this. On Friday, clouds were hovering over the state since morning. With dense clouds covering the mountains and plains, light drizzle started in the afternoon. Light drizzle continued till late evening in Dehradun and surrounding areas. At the same time, snowfall started in other high altitude areas including Chardham.
Peaks covered in white sheet
The peaks of Auli, Harshil, Hemkund Sahib, Chopta, Dayara, Lokhandi, Sukki Top, Munsiyari, Pithoragarh covered in white sheet. Apart from this, mercury also dipped due to rain in lower areas. The maximum temperature in most areas fell by five to 10 degrees Celsius.
Chances of heavy snowfall in five districts
According to the Director of Meteorological Center, Bikram Singh, dense clouds may remain over the state on Saturday. There are chances of heavy snowfall in the high altitude areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Hailstorm and rain may occur in other districts as well. Keeping in mind snowfall and hailstorm, it has been advised to be extra cautious in the hilly areas.
10 degree Celsius drop in mercury within 24 hours
Due to change in weather, a huge drop in maximum temperature was recorded in most areas on Friday. Due to drizzle throughout the day in Doon, the maximum temperature was recorded at 14.1 degree Celsius, which is 10 degree Celsius less than Thursday and six degree Celsius below normal. The drop in mercury is expected to continue on Saturday as well. Along with this, the minimum temperature may also decrease.
