The state’s village, area and district panchayats will now once again be handed over to administrators for six months or till the elections are held. The tenure of the outgoing panchayat representatives who became administrators is ending within the next 15 days. In such a situation, the government is going to bring an ordinance for the appointment of administrators in the three-tier panchayats.
There are 343 district panchayats, 2936 area panchayats and 7505 gram panchayats in the state except Haridwar district. Despite the end of their five-year term, elections could not be held in them. Due to the elections not being held on time, the government had appointed the outgoing panchayat representatives as administrators for six months or till the elections, whichever is earlier, but the six-month tenure of the village panchayats is ending on May 27, the area panchayat chiefs on May 29 and the administrators of the district panchayats on June 1. In such a situation, it is not possible to conduct elections in the next 15 days. In view of this, once again the panchayats will be handed over to administrators for the next six months or till the elections are held, whichever is earlier. For this, the government will bring an ordinance.
This is the provision in the Act
According to the provision given in the Panchayat Raj Act 2016, if it is necessary to hold elections before the term of the panchayats ends, then the government will be able to appoint administrators for six months. The tenure of the administrators is about to end.
Will the administrator be appointed again or someone else?
The government has currently appointed the outgoing panchayat representatives as administrators in the panchayats. According to the officials, the tenure of the elected and selected increases, the current panchayat representatives are neither selected nor elected. Those who are nominated.
