
On International Women’s Day, under the government’s pilot project Sarathi, 14 women drivers will be brought on the roads of Dehradun, who will provide free rides to the women of the city for a week. Currently, women drivers are being trained in driving by the Transport Department. After that, employment opportunities will be given along with the license. This scheme is being started with two e-taxis, two e-auto rickshaws and 10 e-scooties. Departmental Minister Rekha Arya will be the first passenger of the women’s chariot. Transport department and police have been included for better operation and security of the scheme.
Economically weak women will get a chance
Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Arya said that this pilot project will expand to other cities of the state after six months. In this scheme, priority will be given to such women who are economically weak, widow or deserted. The scheme will be started from the camp office located in Yamuna Colony. She herself will go to IRDT at Survey Chowk with the women chariot. Where a demo of all the vehicles will be given in the auditorium.
Operation will be through app, GPS tracking for safety
Vehicles for this project have been arranged from the CSR fund of an organization. A mobile app has been developed for the operation of these passenger vehicles. This app will work in the same way as the apps of commercial companies that book vehicles online. Minister Arya said that many features have been included in the vehicles keeping in mind the safety of women drivers. GPS tracking of these vehicles will be done regularly so that any of the female drivers or passengers can get immediate help in case of any safety related problem.
