Till now 148 hotels have done this heinous act. In the greed of filling their pockets, people are destroying nature. When trees are cut down, wildlife is destroyed, and water sources dry up, it is not development, but a recipe for disaster Rather it is an invitation to disaster. This statement of Sunderlal Bahuguna ji is proving true today.
The mountains are not like mountains anymore. Now these have become tourist places and people come here to contaminate them. A clear example of this was visible in Nainital. While the hotel business is increasing due to the increase in tourists, businessmen are not desisting from pouring dirty water into Naini Lake. Till now 148 hotels have done this heinous act. In the greed of filling their pockets, people are destroying nature. In such a situation, the National Green Authority (NGT) has geared up and started taking strict action. Yes, now action will be taken against such hotels.
Let us tell you that a tough stand has been taken while hearing the case related to unauthorized felling of trees and contaminating the lake in the surrounding areas including Nainital. The court has said that the area adjacent to Nainital city is a forest area of rare and endangered species. Careless businessmen and people are discharging domestic sewerage and solid waste into the rain drains that reach Naini Lake. On the other hand, forests are being destroyed due to illegal felling on the hills. Every year, felling of trees in the hills causes landslides and damage to the environment. Look at the courage of the hoteliers that more than 148 hotels are running without the permission of the Pollution Control Board and are discharging contaminated water and sewerage into the lake. In such a situation, on Tuesday, the chairman of the authority, Justice Shiv Kumar Singh, heard the petition of Vivek Verma, a resident of Nainital. During the hearing, DFO, SDM and Regional Officer of Pollution Control Board of Nainital appeared. He told that about 11 lakh fine has been collected from those who cut trees.
