The sports department is busy finalizing the preparations for the National Games to be held in Uttarakhand after 19 days. On Wednesday, Dainik Jagran visited the sports venues of the National Games and took stock of the preparations. Construction work is still going on at various sports venues in Maharana Pratap Sports College and Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Work is in its final stages at Ganga Athletics Track, Trishul Shooting Range, Bhagirathi Hall, Monal Hall and Lawn Bowling Ground in the Sports College.
At the same time, a squash court is being prepared in the cricket stadium and a golf course in Premnagar. National Games can be organized at the sports venues only after getting approval from the Director of Competition (DOC) and the Indian Olympic Association. There are 9 challenges in the successful organization of the National Games, which the Sports Department will have to overcome.
Work on making synthetic athletics track is 95 percent complete
Synthetic layer will have to be laid on the athletics track soon. More than 95 percent of the work of building a new synthetic athletics track in the sports college is complete. After asphalting on the track, now synthetic layer is being laid. At the same time, a grass field is being prepared in the middle of the track. There will be various sports disciplines of rugby and athletics here. Completing it on time will be the biggest challenge for the department.
Infrastructural work in the shooting range has to be completed soon
Let us tell you that rifle-pistol shooting competition is held in Trishul Shooting Range. For this, shooting ranges of 10, 25 and 50 meters have been prepared. Other infrastructural work including spectator gallery, lighting, CCTV cameras, electronic targets are pending here. More than 30 employees are engaged in completing various works here.
Lift work in Bhagirathi Hall is to be completed
Apart from this, basketball and gymnastics competitions are to be held in Bhagirathi Hall. The work of installing lift here is in the final stage. Apart from this, final touches are being given inside and outside the hall.
Golf course will be ready soon
Golf course competitions have been proposed at Freema Golf Course located in Premnagar. Getting the golf course ready on time is also no less than a challenge. DOCs have not been appointed for golf yet. Indian Olympic Association’s technical team and Indian Golf Union officials may reach here soon to take stock of the golf course preparations.
Lawn bowling ground is being prepared
A natural grass ground is being prepared near the hockey practice ground for lawn bowling. A European grass ground has been prepared here. Excavation is visible around the ground. Flooring work is to be done in it. It is also necessary to get it ready on time and get final approval from the IOA.
Monal Hall will be rejuvenated soon
Work is going on to make lighting and soundproof walls in Monal Old Multipurpose Hall. Here shuttering of bamboo sticks is installed on the walls. This old hall will have to be rejuvenated by finalizing the work. Weightlifting and Judo competitions are to be held here.
Squash court work in final stage
A new squash court is being prepared at Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium for the squash competition. Lighting and painting works have been completed in two courts here. Flooring work is going on in two courts. Here too, workers are busy completing various works at a fast pace.
Roads have to be made sparkling
Due to the construction work going on in Maharana Pratap Sports College, the road is in a very bad condition. The work of making it also has to be completed soon. At the same time, asphalting work is going on on the road leading to the National Sports Secretariat in Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium.
Beautification work should also be completed soon
The venues for the National Games have to be decorated on the theme of Green Games. Fun Park, E-Waste Park, Green Park and other works are to be done here. Painting depicting the culture of the hills is also to be done. Beautification works also have to be completed on time. Special Chief Sports Secretary Amit Sinha said that work is going on at a fast pace on the sports venues of the National Games. The work is in its final stage. The target has been set to complete the work by January 15.
