Just remember, the day of December 4, 2021. Then Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone and inaugurated schemes worth Rs 18,000 crore. The Himalayan Cultural Center built at a cost of Rs 67.3 crore at Nimbuwala (Gadi Cantt) in Dehradun was also included in the dedicated schemes.
The government is now going to start operating this center built with the aim of preserving the rich folk heritage of Uttarakhand. Not only will all the dimensions related to the state’s culture be reflected in this, it will also play an important role in connecting the future generation with its roots.
The government has decided to set up the Himalayan Cultural Center with the aim of conserving the folk arts of the central Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, providing a proper platform to the folk conductors and introducing the future generation to the cultural heritage. Its responsibility was entrusted to the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC). In the year 2021, its grand building was completed. It has all the facilities like state-of-the-art auditorium, museum, open theatre, art gallery under one roof.
According to the Director of Culture Department, Bina Bhatt, all aspects of the culture of Uttarakhand will be reflected in this center. Tangible-intangible objects related to civilization and culture including cuisine, customs, architecture, jewellery, style of monuments, manuscripts, folk instruments will be displayed in the museum. The colors of all genres of folk art will spread here. The center will also play an important role in the conservation of folk arts.
Special at Himalayan Cultural Center:
825 seat capacity auditorium in 2518 square meters, special facility for Divyangjan.
Auditorium equipped with digital and state-of-the-art sound system, strengthened from the point of view of security.
Large museum consisting of four museum halls, two exhibition galleries, meeting hall and library.
Parking facility for more than three hundred vehicles in the premises of the center built on green building concept.
The Himalayan Cultural Center will prove to be a milestone in the preservation of the folk heritage of Uttarakhand. Preparations are on to start its operations with a grand event in the second week of next month. Time has been sought from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for its commencement.
