Mini control rooms will now be set up at three places to keep an eye on vehicles in the state. These places are Pauri, Almora and Haldwani. The purpose of setting up these new mini control rooms is that prompt action can be taken on the information of violation of rules through the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) installed on vehicles. The state government has made it mandatory to install VLTD in vehicles. This device is being installed on new vehicles, while the Transport Department is ensuring that the devices are installed in old vehicles. In this sequence, VLTD has been installed in more than 80 thousand vehicles in the state so far.
Vehicles can be monitored
The advantage of installing VLTD is that it keeps the vehicle under the surveillance of the department. If a driver drives at high speed or takes a sharp turn, then the department’s Control and Command Center immediately receives information about it. If a vehicle meets with an accident or someone tries to remove the wire of this device or tampers with it, the department gets information about it. Currently, a control and command center has been set up at the transport headquarters.
Data will be kept safe
The control and command center gets information about it through the GPRS chip installed in the VLTD. The communication system in the mountainous areas is not well organized yet. In such a situation, the department is not able to get complete information about vehicles at many places in the mountainous areas. Also, the data received through VLTD is so much that it cannot be kept safe in a control room for a long time. In such a situation, it has been decided to set up mini control rooms at mountainous places so that the data of violation of rules can be kept safe by keeping an eye on the vehicles from here as well. Joint Transport Commissioner SK Singh says that steps are being taken in this direction. The tender process for setting up new mini control rooms is being started soon.
