The state government is now taking steps towards building the state’s first Medicity in Haridwar. Under this, after ensuring the operation of the newly built medical college in Haridwar, it is proposed to build it in the second phase. In this, along with the medical college, super specialty hospital, nursing college, paramedical college and wellness center will be built. Under Sashakt Uttarakhand, the health department is moving forward in this direction. Continuous efforts are being made to improve health education and health services in the state. In this series, the state government has also constructed Haridwar Medical College. It was proposed to run this medical college on PPP mode. However, after the controversy over fees last year, the government took its operation in its own hands. This year also admissions are to be done for 100 seats in it. Now the department is brainstorming on how to run it on PPP mode. However, in a recent meeting of the Health Department chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, it has been included as a game changer scheme. It was told that it will be taken forward in a revenue sharing manner. In the second phase of this scheme, it is proposed to expand the scope of the medical college and make it a Medicity. A time limit of 15 years has been set for this. In this, the construction of Super Specialty Hospital, Nursing College, Paramedical College and Wellness Center is expected to provide employment to about five thousand people. Along with this, it is expected to have an economic impact of Rs 6500 crore per year. The construction of this Medicity in Haridwar area will have a wide impact on the surrounding areas. This will benefit not only Haridwar but also a large part of Uttar Pradesh with health services. This is also the reason why the government is moving forward seriously on this scheme.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the Health Department to move forward seriously in this direction.
