In Uttarakhand, on Wednesday, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in eight districts including Dehradun. According to the State Meteorological Center, torrential rain anywhere from the mountains to the plains can create disaster-like situations. In view of this, the administration and the general public have been advised to be very vigilant. Monsoon remains highly active due to the western disturbance passing around the Himalayan region in the form of cyclonic circulation. In such a situation, the Meteorological Department has issued an advisory for the concerned districts.

In the advisory issued by the State Meteorological Center, people living in areas prone to landslides have been appealed to move to safer places. People living near rivers, drains and low-lying areas have also been instructed to be cautious and relocate immediately if needed.

Instructions to dam, barrage and hydropower plant management to keep water level to minimum
Possibility of stopping mountaineering expeditions
Advice to district administration to keep schools closed
Instructions to stop construction work, especially bridge, tunnel, dam and building construction activities

Stay indoors during heavy rains/floods
Do not enter overflowing rivers, streams or flood areas
Stay away from active landslide areas – keep an eye on media and administrative updates
Possibility of disaster-like situation
Yatri/tourists going on Chardham Yatra or other mountainous areas have been advised to be cautious and stay away from steep slopes. Travel has been asked to be avoided as much as possible. The Meteorological Department has appealed to everyone to be extremely cautious in view of the severity of the weather, avoid unnecessary travel and stay in safe places.
