Action continues against illegal madrasas running without registration in Uttarakhand. Under the campaign going on for the last one and a half months, so far 173 illegal madrasas have been sealed across the state. This action is being taken in the districts on the basis of the report of special survey teams constituted by the government. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made it clear that Uttarakhand will not be allowed to become the center of any kind of illegal, unconstitutional and society-breaking activities.
More than 500 madrasas illegal across the state
452 madrasas are registered in the state under the Madrasa Education Board, which give full details of their accounts to the government. Meanwhile, when a survey was conducted by the government, it came to light that more than 500 madrasas are running illegally across the state. Neither are they registered with the Madrasa Board nor do they meet other standards. In view of this, the government started a campaign against illegal madrasas from March. Not only this, the government is also investigating whether the illegally operated madrasas are getting funding through hawala. Apart from this, preparations are also underway to change the system for registration of madrasas in the Madrasa Board.
173 madrasas sealed so far
Under the ongoing campaign against illegal madrasas, 173 madrasas have been sealed so far. It was told that these madrasas were running without registration and the activities of some were suspicious. At many places, neither permission was taken for building construction nor the standards of educational recognition and security were met. The maximum number of 65 madrasas have been sealed in Udham Singh Nagar district. Not only this, a large number of illegally operated madrasas are under investigation.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made it clear in this matter that if the madrasas which are currently under investigation are also found to be against the rules, then strict action will be taken against them as well. He said that the government wants to ensure that every type of educational institution in the state is legally registered and there is transparency in their functioning. Also, they should not become the center of any kind of activities spreading extremism.
