After the strictness of the Supreme Court on Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna’s Patanjali Ayurveda Limited, clouds of all-round crisis are looming. The licensing authority of the AYUSH department of Uttarakhand has banned 14 products of Patanjali. Now GST Intelligence has also turned its attention on Patanjali. Chandigarh unit of Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has issued a notice to Patanjali Foods for recovery of Rs 27.46 crore in the case of wrong claim of ITC (Input Tax Credit). It has been said in the notice why input tax credit of Rs 27.46 crore should not be recovered from the company. In fact, the company is accused of availing the benefit of input tax credit on goods which have not actually arrived. In such a situation, this amount may have to be returned to the company or legal action may also be taken against the company.
Uttarakhand GST catches ITC fraud worth Rs 15 crore
Last year, State Tax (State GST) officials of Haridwar, Uttarakhand had caught the evasion of ITC against eight to nine firms of Patanjali. A similar case was also caught by DGGI, Ghaziabad. Due to the strong case of Uttarakhand officials, it was handed over to the state. Moving forward in the investigation of the scam, the state tax department officials have also conducted survey and seizure action on Patanjali firms. It is being told that now the state tax department can take a big step towards recovery of Rs 15 crore.
