Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has requested the Central Government to allocate a coal block with storage capacity of 125 million tonnes for setting up a power plant of 1000 MW capacity. Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi has assured appropriate action in this regard. During a meeting with the Union Minister in New Delhi on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that due to the favorable industrial policy, there has been rapid industrial development in the state. Due to this, the demand for electricity has increased continuously.
Electricity crisis increases in winter
There is a power crisis in the state during winter because the flow of water in the rivers reduces due to extremely low temperatures. The demand for electricity in the state is increasing at the rate of about four to five percent every year. Due to rapid industrialization the demand for electricity is likely to increase further in the coming years.
A joint venture has been formed
The Chief Minister said that in view of the recommendation made by the Energy Ministry, a joint venture (THDCIL-UJVNL Energy Company Limited) has been formed between Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited and THDC India for the rapid development of power projects in the state. Considering THDC India’s experience in the field of thermal power generation, it is proposed to set up a pit-head thermal power plant through this new joint venture.
This request was made to the Union Minister
The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is one of the few states where no thermal power plant is operating. The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to allocate a coal block to Uttarakhand on priority.
