Confusion persists in Congress regarding the candidate for Haridwar and Nainital seats, Harish Rawat advocated for this face

There is confusion in Congress regarding deciding candidates for Haridwar and Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary seats. Party candidates could not be announced even on Thursday. It is being told that there is a tussle regarding the candidate for Haridwar seat. Due to this, there is a delay in taking the final decision on the selection of the candidate for Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar seat also. The eyes of party workers are now fixed on the list of candidates to be released on Friday.

Formation of high level committee to select candidates
Two days have passed since the nomination process for Lok Sabha elections started, but Congress is having to sweat over the selection of candidates for both these seats. The party leadership also constituted a three-member high level committee to take quick decisions in this regard. State Screening Committee Chairman Bhakta Charan Das, party’s National General Secretary KC Venugopal and state in-charge Kumari Selja were included in this. This committee also brainstormed on Thursday regarding the selection of candidates for both the seats.
It is being said that considering the social equations of both these seats, the central leadership is in favor of fielding strong candidates. For this reason, many leaders were seen in support of making former Chief Minister Harish Rawat the candidate for Haridwar seat. Harish Rawat himself is advocating to give ticket to his son Virendra Rawat on this seat. The committee also had a discussion with Harish Rawat in this regard.

Ticket to Virendra Singh Rawat in Haridwar
If party sources are to be believed, discussions about Virendra Singh Rawat getting ticket in Haridwar have gained momentum. Rawat has been successful in convincing the party about his son’s candidature. Whereas former MP Mahendra Pal can be made a candidate for Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary seat.
Indications of consensus in this regard have been received from party leaders. Although, another list of Lok Sabha candidates was released by Congress on Thursday night, but both the seats of Uttarakhand were not included in it. Party leaders are now eyeing the list of candidates to be released on Friday.
