If half the population of Uttarakhand i.e. 40.12 lakh women voters turn towards which side, it will not take long for the fortunes of that political party to turn around. In the marginal and hilly districts, women voters are in a decisive position due to their numerical strength. Congress’s eyes are fixed on this voter group. The results of the last two Lok Sabha elections show that women trusted its arch rival BJP more than the Congress. Behind this, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central as well as the state government have worked hard on many schemes including Lakhpati Didi, women’s reservation, keeping women at the center. In response to this, Congress has come out with a policy of women empowerment.
This promise is being made to women
Through Nyay Yatra, a promise is being made to start a scheme to provide home-based work to every woman in the districts. How effective this move of Congress in response to Lakhpati Didi will prove to be in wooing women voters will become clear only from the election results.
Women’s participation is important in Devbhoomi
Mother power has played an important role in the formation of the state of Uttarakhand. Out of total 83.21 lakh voters in the state, the number of women is more than 40.12 lakh. They have a big contribution in economic empowerment in the hilly districts, from farming to micro and small enterprises and self-help groups. There is not a big difference between female voters and male voters in Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pauri, Almora, Bageshwar and Champawat districts. Their number is more in Rudraprayag district.
Such was the role of women in the elections of 2014 and 2019.
The role of women is considered important behind the BJP’s huge jump in vote percentage in the state in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In this Lok Sabha election, every party is trying its best to woo the mother power.
Congress focusing on women
To woo women, Congress has prepared a blueprint for their economic empowerment. The party is reaching out among the voters regarding this. Under this, self-help groups will be formed and women will be given training along with machines for economic empowerment. It is being claimed that women associated with this scheme will be able to earn an income of Rs 15 to 20 thousand per month. 50 crore women of the country need sanitary pads. Pads will be made through women self-help groups. Ten pads will be given free of cost to women in every village of the country as well as Uttarakhand.
Congress is going to knock the doors of victimized women
State Mahila Congress President Jyoti Rautela says that the incidents of exploitation and sexual harassment of women have increased in Uttarakhand. Mahila Congress is going to knock on the doors of the victim sisters to get them justice. Nari Nyaya Sammelans are being organized in every district of Uttarakhand. Mahila Congress is struggling to provide justice to women. The victimized women will be provided financial, legal, treatment and other assistance. Behind the concept of Nyay Yatra is the political, social and economic empowerment of half the population. State Congress President Karan Mahara said that the party has been continuously among the public regarding the cases of harassment of women.
