The education department is moving ahead in providing basic facilities to students in government schools, but no attention is being paid to the repair of dilapidated toilets at the school level. In many schools, toilets are not being used due to lack of water. Teachers of some schools keep the toilets locked. In such a situation, even today out of 11,380 primary schools, girls are not getting toilet facilities in 974 schools and boys in 798 schools. Rs 1,205 crore approved by the central government. In this financial year, Rs 1,205 crore has been approved by the central government to the state under Samagra Shiksha. Out of this, budget has also been allocated to the schools for construction of toilets, but due to negligence at the school level, we have not been able to achieve 100 percent target in toilet facilities. 100% target still far
However, compared to last year, 319 new toilets for girls and 248 for boys have been built in these schools, but 100% target is still far. This figure of toilet construction is when 154 primary schools have been closed in the last one year. Dehradun is the only district where toilets have been built in 869 primary schools. Whether there is toilet facility for boys and girls in government primary schools or not, these figures have not been uploaded by any private company or institution, but by the education department itself in the Unified District Information System for Education (U-Dias). Last year, where 1,089 primary schools were without toilets, only 248 of them were able to get toilet facility within a year. Similarly, last year 1,330 schools did not have toilets for girl students, this year toilets have been built in 329 schools.
