Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami gave indications:
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached New Delhi on Sunday evening. Talking to the media in New Delhi, he indicated that the expert committee constituted to decide the draft of the Uniform Civil Code may soon submit its report to the state government.
Government sources in Dehradun told that after reaching Delhi late in the evening, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Senior) and other members of the expert committee also participated in the meeting held during this period.
It is worth mentioning that Uniform Civil Code is included in the top priority of the state government. After coming to power, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami constituted an expert committee headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Seni) on 27 May 2022 to draft the Uniform Civil Code, in which four members were included. Later, the member secretary was also included in it. The tenure of this committee was extended twice. In May this year, its tenure was extended for four months.
During the tenure of about 13 months, 63 meetings of the expert committee have been held so far and more than 2.30 lakh suggestions have been received by the committee. During its tenure, the committee met the representatives of different religions, communities and tribes and also took suggestions from the local people by going to different parts of the state. The committee has taken suggestions in this regard from the migrant Uttarakhandis as well as from various political parties.
The committee was earlier supposed to submit its report by the end of June, but it could not happen. Actually, the committee has prepared the draft and is now giving it the form of a book. That’s why it is taking time. After the meeting held on Sunday late evening, it is believed that the committee has completed this task as well and before handing it over to the government, it was discussed with Home Minister Amit Shah. Under these circumstances, it is understood that a decision can be taken soon regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand.
