Doon–Delhi Expressway: Bus Fares Reduced by 25%, Travel Becomes Faster and More Affordable

admin April 17, 2026

The recently inaugurated Doon-Delhi Expressway has started delivering major benefits to travelers commuting between Dehradun and Delhi. Following its inauguration by Narendra Modi on April 14, the expressway has been opened for public transport, leading to a significant reduction in both travel time and bus fares.

One of the most notable changes is the 25% reduction in bus fares for passengers traveling via the expressway. The fare for Volvo buses, which previously stood at ₹945, has now been reduced to ₹709. Similarly, AC bus fares have been lowered from ₹704 to ₹557, while fares for ordinary buses have decreased from ₹420 to ₹355. This move has brought considerable financial relief to daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.

The expressway has not only made travel more affordable but also significantly faster. Earlier, the journey between Dehradun and Delhi used to take around five hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. With the opening of the new expressway, the same journey can now be completed in approximately three hours, marking a major improvement in connectivity between the two cities.

The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation has already begun operating around 16 buses via the expressway route. Prior to the official launch, the corporation conducted trial runs by sending a few buses along this route. The results were highly encouraging, with buses completing the journey in about three hours and showing a noticeable reduction in operational costs per trip.

These reduced operational expenses have directly contributed to the decision to lower ticket prices, ensuring that the benefits of improved infrastructure are passed on to passengers. According to officials, the expressway has also enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced wear and tear on vehicles, making it a more sustainable and cost-effective route for transport services.

Prateek Jain, Assistant General Manager of the Rural Depot, stated that the number of passengers opting for bus travel via the expressway is steadily increasing. The reduced fares have further boosted demand, making bus travel an even more attractive option compared to other modes of transport. He added that if the demand continues to rise, the corporation is prepared to increase the number of buses operating on this route.

Overall, the Doon–Delhi Expressway is proving to be a game-changer for regional connectivity. By reducing travel time and lowering transportation costs, it is not only benefiting passengers but also improving the efficiency of public transport services. As more people choose this faster and cheaper option, the expressway is expected to play a key role in strengthening economic and social ties between Dehradun and Delhi.
