
A case has been registered against Salt (Almora) MLA Mahesh Singh Jeena and his four supporters in the city police station for misbehaving with the Municipal Commissioner and employees of Dehradun Municipal Corporation. At the same time, on Wednesday, the employees went on strike in the Municipal Corporation office and demonstrated regarding this matter. The employees demanded the arrest of those who committed indecency. Due to the strike of the employees, all the work including building tax, birth and death certificates came to a standstill. Apart from this, the sanitation workers in the city also did not collect the garbage. About 400 tonnes of garbage generated daily from all the wards of the city was not collected. In the complaint given to the police, Municipal Corporation Drivers Association President Rajesh Kumar and Secretary Dheeraj Bharti said that on Tuesday, Salt MLA Mahesh Singh Jeena reached the Municipal Corporation with his supporters and used to abuse senior clerk Pawan Thapa and consultant Ankush Soni. They threatened to kill him. After this, MLA Jeena went to Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar’s room and cursed him too.
In this case, Kotwali police has registered a case against MLA Mahesh Singh Jeena and his four supporters under sections of obstructing government work and criminal intimidation. On Tuesday, BJP MLA from Salt Mahesh Singh Jeena, angry over not getting the tender for garbage disposal in the old trenching ground of the Municipal Corporation on Sahasradhara Road, had reached Dehradun Municipal Corporation with his supporters. Where they created a huge ruckus.
It is alleged that the MLA entered the office of Municipal Commissioner (IAS) Gaurav Kumar and not only misbehaved with him, but also abused the Municipal Commissioner. The MLA accused the Municipal Commissioner of corruption in the tender process. The Municipal Commissioner’s temper also rose due to the MLA’s misbehavior and he even talked about resigning. As soon as information about the incident was received, all the Municipal Corporation employees became angry and went on an indefinite strike, raising slogans against the MLA. The employees said that until the MLA apologizes, the garbage collection work of Doon city and all the works of the Municipal Corporation will come to a standstill. Now on Wednesday morning, there was no cleanliness in the entire city. After this, door-to-door garbage collection vehicles were also not operated. Employees in the Municipal Corporation office locked all the sections and demonstrated in the premises.
Kotwali arrived demanding arrest
A large number of employees gathered in the Municipal Corporation under the banner of Municipal Employees Federation. From here he reached the city police station raising slogans against the Salt MLA. Municipal Corporation Employees Union President Nam Bahadur said that Salt MLA Mahesh Singh Jeena along with four supporters abused senior municipal clerk Pawan Thapa and consultant Ankush Soni and threatened to kill them. After this, he went to the room of Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar and misbehaved with him also. He accused the MLA of using abusive language in the corporation premises and threatening the employees. A case has been filed against the MLA and his supporters for obstructing government work, misbehavior and threatening officers and employees and demanded their arrest.
Common people were worried, garbage started piling up in the city and all the work in the Municipal Corporation came to a standstill due to the strike by the employees. During this period, a large number of people kept reaching the corporation for making birth-death certificates and depositing building tax and other works, but they returned after seeing the offices locked. Here, garbage collection could not be done anywhere in the city. People remained troubled due to non-availability of garbage collection vehicles from door to door and at many places, household garbage was thrown into empty plots and rivers and drains. Apart from this, garbage was also scattered on the roadside. About 400 tonnes of garbage is generated in the city every day. The situation may worsen on Thursday if the sanitation workers’ strike continues.
