The Yamuna-Mussoorie drinking water scheme has remained a distant dream for the residents of Mussoorie. Drinking water supply has not yet been started in Mussoorie by the Drinking Water Corporation. For this, the Drinking Water Corporation is citing lack of adequate power supply. On the other hand, the Energy Corporation has claimed to provide sufficient power, denying the claims of non-supply of power. Now the plan worth crores is hanging in this tussle.
It cannot be said when the residents of Mussoorie will get the benefit of the state’s highest pumping drinking water scheme being built at a cost of about Rs 150 crore. For the last one and a half months, claims are being made by the Drinking Water Corporation to provide drinking water to the residents of Mussoorie. Whereas, the situation is that it may take a long time to start the water supply. After delivering water to Radha Bhawan, the drinking water corporation’s speed is slow and the reason for this is being told due to lack of power supply.
Work is in progress to repair the electrical system.
Last week itself, Managing Director of Drinking Water Corporation Udayraj discussed with the higher officials of the Energy Corporation about repairing the power system by conducting on-site inspection. After which the Energy Corporation gave power supply to the plant from Nainbagh as well as from Mussoorie. However, officials of the Drinking Water Corporation are still citing non-availability of water pumps due to non-availability of power supply for sufficient time. On the other hand, MR Arya, Chief Engineer of Energy Corporation, denied this and claimed uninterrupted power supply. Also, he has said that there is no reduction in voltage.
Land received in January for substation:
The Yamuna-Mussoorie Drinking Water Scheme was launched in the year 2020. After about three years, the Drinking Water Corporation remembered the electricity system. Energy Corporation’s Chief Engineer MR Arya told that in January 2023, the Drinking Water Corporation provided the land for the construction of the sub-station, that too the station has to be built on a rock. This may take a few more months.
There will be no drinking water problem in Mussoorie:
There will be no problem of drinking water in Mussoorie, the queen of hills, in the days to come. In this connection, the Central Government has approved Rs. 56.46 crore as special grant-in-aid for the Mussoorie Reorganization Water Supply Scheme. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Center for this.
In view of the drinking water problem of Mussoorie, a drinking water scheme has been constructed for Mussoorie from the Yamuna river with the help of the Central Government. Now the Center has approved special grant-in-aid for this restructuring water supply scheme. Chief Minister Dhami said that now there will be a permanent solution to the drinking water problem of Mussoorie.
