The State Livestock Mission of Uttarakhand will take shape by October. The exercise has now been intensified to give concrete shape to this mission on the lines of the National Livestock Mission. Under this, loans will be provided to cattle rearers at a low interest rate, so that with the increase in activities related to animal husbandry, self-employment opportunities can be created.
According to Animal Husbandry Minister Saurabh Bahuguna, the mission has already received cabinet approval. Now it will be started after getting the green signal from the Finance Department. Under the National Livestock Mission, there is a provision of loan for major schemes related to animal husbandry, but small animal farmers were facing problems in this.
In view of this problem, on the initiative of Animal Husbandry Minister Saurabh Bahuguna, an exercise was started to start the state’s own livestock mission on the lines of the national mission. This proposal was put forward in the cabinet meeting some time ago, which was approved. Now rapid steps are being taken to bring it on the ground.
What is State Livestock Mission:
In the State Livestock Mission, in view of starting small scale activities related to animal husbandry including cow, goat, poultry, loan will be available for the animal husbandry at eight to nine percent low interest rate. The government’s intention behind this is to increase the income of the farmers as well as create self-employment opportunities.
Demand of 17 crores made from the government:
The department has demanded a budget of Rs 17 crore from the government to start the mission. The file related to this has been sent to the Finance Department. According to Animal Husbandry Minister Bahuguna, other formalities including the portal for the mission are being completed. It is certain that it will take two-two and a half months. Till then the green signal will also be received from the Finance Department. The effort is to convert the State Livestock Mission into action from October. He said that the farmers of the hilly areas of the state would be given priority in the mission.
