Tourists visiting the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, which is very important from the tourism point of view, will also get acquainted with the 52 forts here in the near future. The government has decided to renovate these forts (forts) present in the form of remains, so that along with tourists, the future generation can also know about the past. In this sequence, details of the status, history etc. of the forts located in their area have been sought from the concerned district tourism officers. After this, steps will be taken to develop tourist facilities there along with the conservation and restoration of these forts.
There was a distinct identity in the form of 52 forts
The Garhwal region once had a distinct identity in the form of 52 forts.
Probably, this region got the name Garhwal because of these forts.
If we look into the past, these forts were in the form of different states.
Those who ruled each fort were called Gadhpati (king).
It is believed that these forts existed till the 14th century.
The forts of the Gadhpatis still exist as remains, from where they used to rule.
These forts contain many important topics including their architectural style, water storage style.
One of these forts of Garhwal, the fort of Chandpur Garhi, is under the Archaeological Department for conservation.

Similarly, the forts of the Gadhpatis also exist as remains in other forts including Gujru.
Now that the government is giving special emphasis on tourism in the state, preparations are being made to renovate these forts (Garhs) in this sequence.
Along with the conservation of the forts, tourism facilities will also be developed in the surrounding villages and areas from the tourism point of view.
The government has now started preparations in view of the intention of development along with heritage.
