The women of Dehradun took maximum advantage of the free travel given by the state government in transport corporation buses for the sisters on Raksha Bandhan. Under this facility provided from 12 noon on Wednesday to 12 midnight on 31st August, 12823 women traveled in Dehradun buses.
7318 women traveled free in Rudrapur depot buses, 6281 in Kashipur depot buses, while 5623 women traveled free in Kathgodam. The government spent Rs 53 lakh, 82 thousand, 362 on this scheme.
36 hours free travel facility on Rakshabandhan
This year on Rakshabandhan, the sisters were given the facility of 36 hours free travel in Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses by the government. Every year this period used to be 24 hours, but this time due to Rakshabandhan by two days, the government had extended its period.
59521 women traveled free in the state

In three depots of Dehradun city, 4891 women in Dehradun depot, 3952 in rural depot while 3780 women in hill depot availed free travel. 3953 women traveled in Haridwar Depot, 4675 in Haldwani, 3405 in Rishikesh, 3333 in Roorkee, 2868 in Tanakpur while 2703 women traveled in Ramnagar.
Details of travel expenses sent to the state government
Transport Corporation General Manager Deepak Jain said that more than one thousand buses were operated in all the 20 depots of the state. He informed that the details of the expenses incurred on the journey are being sent to the state government for reimbursement.
