Doon-Mussoorie road closed again within a week
Mussoorie. Dehradun-Mussoorie road, which was made operational after temporary treatment of the landslide zone a week ago, was closed again for vehicles due to a hill crack near Kolhu Khet on Wednesday evening. It was told that due to heavy rain, boulders and debris have accumulated on the road due to the hill cracking. The PWD team is busy in opening the road through JCB, but this work was repeatedly hindered due to rain. Till the time of writing the news at 9 pm, the road had not been made operational and there were long queues of vehicles on both sides. It cannot be predicted when the Dehradun-Mussoorie road will be closed due to debris or landslide during the rainy season. In the last one month, the Doon-Mussoorie road was blocked at different places for five to seven hours about a dozen times, but after the collapse of the embankment near Galogi Dhar on July 19, the district administration had stopped the movement of heavy vehicles (buses and trucks) on the road till July 24. Actually, due to the landslide, there was less than a single lane on the road. After the construction of the damaged embankment, the road was opened from July 25, but it was stipulated that vehicles with a capacity of more than nine tonnes would not pass through the road. After this, the operation of buses and small trucks started, but after a week on Wednesday evening, this road was again closed for all vehicles.
With the start of heavy rains in the district on Wednesday evening, boulders and debris fell on the road due to the cracking of the hill on the Dehradun-Mussoorie road at around 6:30 pm. Due to which the traffic on the route came to a complete halt and long queues of vehicles were formed on both sides of the road. It is a good thing that no vehicle was passing on the road at the time of the hill cracking, otherwise a major mishap could have occurred. PWD Engineer Subhash Bijalwan said that the debris and boulders are being removed from the blocked place with the help of JCB, but it is being hampered due to rain. At the same time, due to the blockage of the road, hundreds of passengers were stranded in the buses of Transport Corporation and Stage Carriage Permit coming from Mussoorie. The number of private vehicles was also quite high.
