There is a preparation to infuse new life in the Congress in the state. The party’s morale has increased after the results of the by-elections in two assembly constituencies came in its favor. The party now faces the challenge of the Kedarnath by-election along with the municipal elections in the state.
In view of this, state in-charge Kumari Selja has called a meeting of the State Congress Committee, Legislature Party as well as former MLAs, former ministers and former MPs in New Delhi on Thursday. The Congress leadership is concerned about the party’s support base in Uttarakhand. In the Lok Sabha elections, the party had lost all five seats in the state.
PL Poonia committee was formed
PL Poonia committee was formed by the party leadership to brainstorm on the reasons for the defeat. Former MP PL Poonia came to Uttarakhand on a three-day visit last month. He met all the MLAs of the party including former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, State Congress Committee officials, former MLAs and former MPs separately and took feedback on the reasons for the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. After the visit of senior leader PL Poonia, on the instructions of the Congress leadership, state in-charge Kumari Selja has called a meeting of the state organization, legislative party and all the leaders at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday. All the senior leaders of the state will attend the meeting.
Congress faces two challenges
The party now faces the challenge of municipal elections as well as by-election in Kedarnath assembly constituency. The performance of the party in these elections can prove to be important in view of the morale of the workers in the upcoming assembly elections.
