At the very beginning of the Chardham Yatra, the government has started receiving complaints about arbitrary fare being collected from the passengers. The Government has ordered the officials of the Transport Department to take action against the transporters who are charging exorbitant fares.
In this sequence, Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari did a surprise inspection of Brahmapuri checkpost on Rishikesh-Kedarnath-Badrinath road and Bhadrakali checkpost on Rishikesh-Gangotri road. The pilgrims traveling in commercial passenger vehicles were questioned and information was taken regarding the fare.
seize the vehicle
RTO Tiwari ordered the officers and employees posted at all checkposts to seize the vehicle if there is a complaint of charging more than the prescribed fare. Along with this, another vehicle should be arranged for the devotees.
Before the Chardham Yatra, the transporter was demanding a 10 per cent increase in the fare on the state government, but the government rejected their demand. After this, there has been no increase in the prices of diesel, tax and insurance including equipment etc. This year, the government had decided to operate buses and taxis in Chardham Yatra in July-2022 as per the fixed fare.
For the Chardham Yatra, the transport department has fixed the class of the vehicle and the fare accordingly. According to the price of the taxi, its category has been decided. Taxis costing up to Rs 8 lakh are classified as ordinary, taxis costing Rs 8 to 15 lakh are deluxe, taxis costing Rs 15 to 25 lakh are luxury, while those costing more than Rs 25 lakh are classified as super luxury.
According to the category, their fare and waiting fee has also been fixed. RTO Enforcement Shailesh Tiwari has appealed to the devotees to book through authorized and registered travel agencies or agents only. He has ordered to paste fare list in all passenger vehicles.
