State Screening Committee is brainstorming on the candidates
These days the State Screening Committee of Congress is racking its brains over the selection of candidates. The biggest challenge before the party is that many of the leaders who have been considered strong from the point of view of contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the party’s survey are not taking interest. It is not possible even for the screening committee to ignore his natural claim. State in-charge Kumari Selja, State President Karan Mahara, Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and committee member Yashomati Thakur were present in the meeting held under the chairmanship of State Screening Committee Chairman Bhakta Charan Das in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Brainstorming on 26 names for five seats
About 26 names were brainstormed for the five seats in the meeting. After two hours of detailed discussion, the panel of names has now been narrowed down to 16. Now, on an average, there is a panel of three names each on each seat. Earlier, on March 1 itself, a total of 42 names were discussed in the screening committee meeting. After discussion the total names were limited to 24-25.
Final meeting will be held on March 9
Now the final decision regarding the candidates has to be taken in the meeting of the Central Election Committee. The committee meeting will be held after March 9. The selection of candidates will be approved in the meeting. After this, candidates will be declared by the party soon.
Brainstorming on the names of all prominent leaders: Karan Mahara
Speaking to the media after the meeting, State President Karan Mahara said that the names of all the prominent leaders of the party, including those who had contested the elections in the year 2019, are included in the list of probable candidates. Brainstorming is going on on these. After March 9, the Screening Committee meeting will also be held on the same day as the Central Election Committee meeting. After this the candidates will be declared.
The aim is to win all five seats: Yashpal Arya
Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that the screening committee extensively discussed the names of Lok Sabha constituency-wise candidates. The Congress leadership has also collected information from its own level regarding the possible candidates. The screening committee will send the panel to the Central Election Committee in two-three days. Congress is aiming to win all five seats.
