The tenure of Dehradun Municipal Corporation is ending on December 2. Before this, the last board meeting of the corporation was held, in which many important proposals were approved. The board approved giving 50 percent of the shops in the vending zone being built in the city to the local unemployed. Besides, a proposal was also passed to allot 75 percent shops to the local unemployed in the food plaza of the Municipal Corporation. Soon 14 smart vending zones and one smart food plaza will be prepared in the city. Apart from this, it was also agreed in the board meeting to give 100% exemption in building tax to the state agitators.
Last board meeting held
On Thursday, the last board meeting of the present executive of the Municipal Corporation was held in the Municipal Corporation Auditorium. In which Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama started the proceedings of the House in the presence of Doiwala MLA Brij Bhushan Gairola and Cantt MLA Savita Kapoor. The post of Municipal Commissioner remained vacant in the board meeting due to IAS Manuj Goyal leaving the charge of Municipal Commissioner a day earlier. On which the House authorized Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rohitash Sharma to conduct the proceedings of the House.
12 proposals were discussed
12 proposals included in the agenda were discussed in the board. Most of which were passed. The proposals received in anticipation were also discussed. In the meeting, the road leading to the house of senior state agitator late Sushila Baluni will be named after her and her statue will be installed there.
These proposals got green signal
The proposal to name any of the squares out of Lansdowne Chowk, Survey Chowk, Fountain Chowk and number six Puliya Chowk after Lord Parshuram was also given the green signal. A square around Silver City will be named after Padmashree Awadhesh Kaushal. Lansdowne Chowk will be named after the brave martyr Kesari Chand. Former MLA late in Dilaram Bazar Chowk. Memorial gate will be built in the name of Harbans Kapoor.
Ban on new electricity and water connections in settlements lifted
After the implementation of the Slum Rules by the Municipal Corporation in the year 2016, the ban on providing electricity and water connections to the houses built in the slums has been removed. In the board meeting, Councilor Hari Bhatt raised the issue that due to non-availability of NOC from the Municipal Corporation, the residents of the colony are not able to get new connections. On which the House decided to remove the condition of NOC.
Interest waived off for traders on lump sum tax deposit
Heavy interest was also being charged by the Corporation on behalf of some traders of Paltan Bazaar for not depositing the tax for many years. Traders were continuously demanding forgiveness for this. On this, the Board decided to waive the interest amount on lump sum payment of tax. With this, many big defaulters of the city will come to deposit taxes in the corporation and the revenue of the corporation will increase.
Investigation will be done on complaints of hoardings and tractor-trolley irregularities
On the allegation of causing loss of crores to the corporation by making irregularities in the tenders for hoardings in the Municipal Corporation area, the Mayor decided to get the matter investigated. At the same time, allegations of irregularities regarding trips and expenses of tractor-trolleys engaged in garbage collection will also be investigated. Let us tell you that Congress leader Abhinav Thapar has alleged a scam worth crores of rupees in the hoarding tender. Thapar claims that a scam of Rs 300 crore was committed in the hoarding business from the year 2013 to the year 2023. Thapar has also talked about going to court in the matter.
Name of Mahavir Chowk: Shri Guru Ram
A proposal to change the names of Mahavir Chowk (Saharanpur Chowk) and Maharishi Kashyap Chowk (Lalpul Chowk) was also proposed in the board meeting of the Municipal Corporation. In which there was a request to name Mahavir Chowk as Shri Guru Ram Rai and Maharishi Kashyap Chowk as Shri Mahant Indiresh. Councilor Satish Kashyap and Councilor Ajay Singhal objected to this. On which Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama asked to consider the name of any other nearby square.
RC of fine imposed on dengue will be canceled
During some times, heavy fines were imposed on establishments that were negligent during the dengue outbreak in the city. But the corporation did not receive a large amount of the fine. RCs were issued to all the persons. Now in the board meeting of the corporation, it has been decided to cancel all the RCs.
Opposition to changing the name of Mianwala
Regional councilor Pooja Negi opposed the proposal to rename Mianwala as Yogeshwar Nagar and Pilikothi Chowk as Captain Dhyani. Said that the area residents have not raised any such demand. This is just a proposal made by one person. The name should not be changed without public opinion. On this, the Mayor said that a decision should be taken by forming a five-member committee including the regional MLA and councilor.
Madhav Ram Quarters will have 32 flats
The Corporation Board also approved giving free hold to Madhav Ram Quarters located near Dalanwala police station. The said 32 flats were given a lease of 99 years by the then municipality. After the lease ended in 2013, the then mayor Vinod Chamoli had decided to keep the flat free, but the file could not progress at the corporation level.
