The name of Mianwala area will not be changed by the Tehri rulers to the Guler Rajputs in Dehradun. On the demand of the people of the area, the Chief Minister has assured not to change the name. Earlier, the government had announced to change the names of many areas on the basis of Indian culture and heritage, under which there was a proposal to rename Mianwala as Ramji Nagar. However, the people of the area opposed it. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a few days ago to change the names of many places in Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar on the basis of public sentiment and Indian culture. Under which it was decided to name the Mianwala area of Doon as Ramji Nagar.
Regional residents opposed
On getting this information through newspapers, the people of the area opposed it. Actually, it is said that the title of Mian was given to the people of Guler princely state by the rulers of Tehri Garhwal. Guler princely state is now a part of Himachal Pradesh, but the rulers of Tehri Garhwal had then allotted them land in Mianwala. Which is currently in Dehradun and is considered the identity of Guler Rajputs. On this side, on Saturday also, a large number of area residents under the leadership of BJP leader Kuldeep Butola met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and demanded not to change the name. On which the Chief Minister assured and instructed the officials not to change the name.
Earlier the MLA had expressed gratitude
Recently, the regional MLA and Mayor along with others met the Chief Minister and expressed gratitude on the government’s decision to rename Mianwala as Ramji Nagar. He had described Ramji Nagar as connected to Indian culture and public sentiment, but the people of the area protested by telling the real meaning of the name Mianwala and now it has been decided not to change the name.
