There will be an agreement between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh regarding state share in Jamrani Dam, Chief Minister Dhami expressed gratitude to PM Modi

admin October 30, 2023

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the approval of Jamrani Dam Project. He said that under this scheme the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 1730.20 crore. Of these, 90 percent will be the central portion and 10 percent will be the state portion. Uttar Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh together will bear this state share. An agreement will soon be signed with Uttar Pradesh in this regard. He said that before the Global Investors Conference, the government’s aim is to implement as many proposals of interest to the state as possible from the investment proposals received so far.

Irrigation and drinking water problem will be solved
While talking to the journalists at the Chief Sevak Sadan located at the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the construction of Jamrani Dam Project will solve the problem of drinking water and irrigation in Haldwani and surrounding areas, and will also generate electricity. He said that this 150.60 meter high dam will be built on the Gaula river, 10 km upstream from Kathgodam in Nainital. This will provide water for irrigation of 1.50 lakh hectares of cultivable area. Along with the availability of 42 MCM drinking water, 63 million units of hydro power will also be generated.
He said that the construction of this project, which started in 1975, was not being completed due to lack of funding. He said that Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will bear five percent each of the 10 percent state share for the project. The Center has given permission to transfer 351 hectares of forest land affected by the project to the Irrigation Department. The cabinet has passed the proposal to relocate more than 1300 families affected by the project to Parag Farm. The process of transferring this land to the Irrigation Department is in progress.
He said that Lakhwad project will also benefit Uttarakhand as well as Himachal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana with water. The Chief Ministers of all the states have given approval for this. This dam is being built on Yamuna river near Lohari village. The distribution of water to be stored in it will be as per the agreement made in 1994 among the six states on the banks of Yamuna. Only Uttarakhand will have the right to receive electricity from this project. He said that so far, agreements worth more than Rs 65 thousand crore have been signed in the road shows held in the country and abroad for the investor conference.
