In view of the cleanliness and purity of the national river Ganga, the Uttar Pradesh government has agreed to give 1000 square meters of land of the UP Irrigation Department in Haridwar to Uttarakhand on an annual lease of one rupee. Two sewage pumping stations of 12.07 MLD (million liters daily) capacity will be set up in the land under a 120 million euro project funded by the German Development Bank (KfW).
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described this project as important for the cleanliness of Ganga. Along with this, gratitude has been expressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the cooperation given in providing the land. The KFW project is being started to strengthen the sewer network in Haridwar and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand under the eco-friendly urban development program in the states located in the Ganga basin.
Tenders have been invited for one package in Haridwar and five packages in Rishikesh under the project. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been continuously reviewing the progress of this project. Meanwhile, land has been found at two places in Haridwar for sewage pumping station under the project, but it is under the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department. Chief Minister Dhami made efforts on this and requested the Uttar Pradesh government to make this land available on lease.
Now the UP government has agreed to give 500 square meters of land each at Bairagi Camp (near Gyan Goshala) in Haridwar and dry river (near Ranipur Rau’s Rapte) to Uttarakhand for this project. Sewage pumping stations of 0.3 MLD capacity will be set up near Bairagi camp and 12.04 MLD capacity at Sukhi Nadi.
Additional Secretary Drinking Water (Namami Gange) Udayraj Singh confirmed this. He informed that last month the contract was signed between the German Development Bank and the State Government for 30 million Euros in the KfW Project Phase-II. Under this, sewer network will be strengthened in the remaining areas.
