The government has approved the appointment of 1988 batch IAS officer and currently Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi as the new Chief Secretary of the state. Its formal orders will be issued today (Wednesday). Radha Raturi will take charge on Wednesday afternoon after the retirement of the current Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu. IAS Raturi is currently looking after the responsibilities of Additional Chief Secretary, Chief Minister.

After Uttarakhand became a separate state, Radha Raturi will be the first woman IAS officer to hold the highest administrative post of the state. With this, the government has also given the message of women empowerment through this step. The extended tenure of the present Chief Secretary Dr SS Sandhu is ending on Wednesday.
Radha Raturi is at the top in seniority
At present, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi is at the top in seniority. Although IAS Anand Bardhan is also Additional Chief Secretary, but he is far behind IAS Radha Raturi in seniority. Bardhan is a 1992 batch IAS officer.
CM Dhami approved the name
Radha Raturi’s name was confirmed as the new Chief Secretary of the state after the approval of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday. However, Raturi’s tenure is going to be of very short duration. His retirement is to take place on March 31. It is up to the government whether it extends his tenure or not.
First female secretary of state
However, Radha Raturi will be the first woman Chief Secretary of the state after assuming charge. Earlier, 1973 batch IPS officer Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya had become the first woman DGP of the state in the year 2004.
Both husband and wife are busy in administrative service.
IAS Radha Raturi’s husband, 1987 batch IPS officer Anil Raturi, has also been DGP. Bina Sekhri, a 1980 batch woman IFS officer, has also taken over the responsibility of Chief Conservator of Forests, the highest post of the Indian Forest Service in the state, in the year 2016. This coincidence will be the first time in the state, when both husband and wife have held the senior most positions in the administrative and police services.
Tenure is 36 years
IAS Radha Raturi has held many important posts during her 36 years of tenure. She has served on many important posts including Additional Chief Secretary Women Empowerment, State Chief Electoral Officer and District Magistrate, Dehradun.
