Uttarakhand will not have to face power shortage in the upcoming summer as well as in the centuries. The central government has increased the quota of additional electricity allotted to the state by 180 MW and extended its time period till June 30, 2025. On September 26, the central government allocated additional 300 MW of electricity to the state till March 31, 2025. Now by giving 180 MW in the next three months i.e. till June 30, 2025, the state will get a total of 480 MW additional electricity. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had requested the central government to increase the additional quota for uninterrupted supply of electricity to the people of the state. Meeting Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, he lobbied for allocating additional power to the state from the central pool.
The government is working on a long-term plan
He told the Union Minister that the gap between the demand and availability of electricity in the state is continuously increasing. To increase power generation, the state government is working on a long-term plan to generate electricity from solar energy, hydroelectric power and coal. Chief Minister Dhami had also said that due to snowfall and other reasons in winter, the power supply in the state is often affected due to the fall in the production of hydroelectric projects. He said that now with the increase in the additional quota received from the central pool, consumers will get smooth supply of electricity in winter and the upcoming summer as well.
