Uttarakhand will not get relief from the natural calamity for now, heavy rain alert in these districts including Uttarkashi today

admin August 7, 2025

There is a huge havoc in Uttarakhand. Heavy rain from the mountains to the plains has badly affected the life of the people. For the last two days, heavy rains have been occurring intermittently in most of the areas. Landslides and excessive rains have caused heavy damage in the mountains, while in the plain districts also, disaster like conditions have arisen due to the overflowing of rivers and streams. At present, there are less chances of getting relief from the natural calamity in the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in six districts including Uttarkashi for today as well. There may be periods of intense rain in Dehradun as well. There is hope of getting some relief from heavy rains after Thursday. On Tuesday, drizzling rains continued since morning in most of the areas of the state including Dehradun. The sequence of rains stopped in Doon during the day, but in the evening, due to heavy rains again, the squares and intersections of the city were submerged. At the same time, people were advised to remain alert in the surrounding areas due to heavy floods in rivers and streams. On the other hand, there is talk of disaster in Dharali of Uttarkashi due to excessive rain. Heavy rain has been recorded at some places in other hilly areas of the state. Apart from this, the rain which started in Haridwar on Monday evening continued till Wednesday morning. During this, a record 305 mm of rain was recorded, which was the highest in the state. 132 mm of rain was recorded in Doon within 24 hours. According to Rohit Thapliyal, senior scientist of Meteorological Center, an orange alert has been issued today for heavy to very heavy rain at some places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar. Apart from this, there may be heavy rains with thunder at some places in Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat and Pauri districts.

Normal rainfall recorded around Dharali
The Meteorological Centre’s automatic weather stations are located in Bhatwadi and Harshil. There are no equipment installed in Dharali. In such a situation, less than 100 mm rainfall has been recorded in Harshil and Bhatwadi area within 24 hours. Due to which there is a doubt about heavy rainfall in Dharali. However, when the weather clears, a team of experts will start investigating the incident. But, at present it is being considered a disaster caused by heavy rainfall.
