With a view to securing women’s rights, women’s policy is being brought in Uttarakhand. Women’s policy is also going to get strength from Uniform Civil Code, which is going to be an important initiative towards women’s empowerment. Its draft has been prepared.
It will be proposed in the upcoming cabinet meeting and it can be dedicated to women on the State Foundation Day on November 9. According to sources, this policy will be comprehensive on 10 points for economic, social and political empowerment of women. Due to the state being disaster sensitive, the subject of climate change and disaster management is also being prominently included in the policy by keeping women at the center. It is not hidden from anyone that women power has an important role in the formation of the state and then in its development. This is the reason why governments have focused on empowering women power. The current government has taken many steps for women empowerment.
There is also a special emphasis on securing women’s rights in the initiative of Uniform Civil Code. Now, to empower women further, preparations are on to bring the campaign of women policy, which has been going on since 2017, on the ground. After several rounds of meetings, the draft of women policy prepared by the State Women Commission is being finalized. Recently, a meeting has been held regarding the draft of this policy under the chairmanship of Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya. The suggestions given on some points are also to be included in it. According to sources, the exercise has been intensified to finalize the draft of women policy, so that its proposal can be brought in the upcoming cabinet meeting. The effort is to place it in the proposed cabinet meeting on 23 October or 1 or 2 November.
Disasters affect differently
The draft of women policy also includes the subject of climate change and disaster management in the state from the perspective of women. It has been said in the draft that women are most affected by disasters. There is strong evidence that disasters affect women differently as well as increase gender inequality. In such a situation, it is necessary to have a gender sensitive approach in disaster prevention, reduction, adaptation, relief, rescue and reconstruction.
