The number of registrations for the Chardham Yatra reached 2000 per day, but no relief; offline registrations were closed in view of the crowd.

admin June 4, 2024

The number of daily registrations in the offline registrations being done in Rishikesh and Haridwar for the Chardham Yatra has now been reduced to 2000 passengers per day. On Monday also, 2000 pilgrims were registered in Rishikesh. However, this number is still not a relief in comparison to the pilgrims arriving here. With the start of the Chardham Yatra, in view of the unexpected crowd in the Dhams, the administration had closed the offline registrations being done in Rishikesh and Haridwar from 15 to 31 May. Meanwhile, the administration had sent the pilgrims on the Yatra after physical registration. It was decided to register 1500 passengers per day in Rishikesh and Haridwar from June 1. The backlog of passengers in Rishikesh had increased due to the limited number of registrations, after which the administration opened registration for 500 more passengers from Monday. On Monday, apart from 1500 passengers, 500 additional passengers were registered and allowed to travel. Now, 2000 passengers can be registered in Rishikesh every day. However, considering the number of pilgrims arriving in Rishikesh, even 2000 registrations are insufficient. At present, there is a backlog of more than 2500 pilgrims in Rishikesh. Additional Commissioner Garhwal Division Narendra Singh Kwariyal said that tokens have been issued to 2000 passengers staying in Rishikesh’s transit camp, ISBT and other Dharamshalas for Tuesday.

Passengers protested, blocked the road
On Monday, some pilgrims got angry when they did not get tokens for offline registration of Chardham Yatra. They created a ruckus on the ISBT road and stopped the roadways buses. When the matter escalated, the police reached the spot and somehow pacified them. On Monday afternoon, pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and other states blocked the road saying that they were not given tokens for registration even after waiting for a long time in the line. Kotwali in-charge inspector Shankar Singh Bisht, who reached the spot, informed the passengers about the token and registration system. He told that tokens are issued a day before for the registration to be done the next day. In that too, priority is given to the passengers staying here for more days. He told that no passenger will be sent back without registration. Rather, if registration is available, they will definitely be registered. After which the anger of the pilgrims calmed down.

The number of offline registrations should be increased to five thousand per day

Representatives of transport companies associated with the Joint Rotation Traffic Arrangements Committee met Chief Secretary Radha Raturi and informed her about the problems related to Chardham Yatra registration. TGMO President Jitendra Singh Negi and Transport Cooperative Union President Manoj Dhyani informed that it has been almost a month since the doors of the Chardham Yatra have opened. The Uttarakhand government has invited the countrymen for the Chardham Yatra through publicity. Due to which a large number of devotees have reached the Chardham Yatra. In such a situation, the administration is stopping registration, which is causing disruption in the journey. Chardham pilgrims are getting upset.

The buses of the Joint Rotation Traffic Management Committee are also standing idle. In such a situation, the bus owners are also facing problems. Therefore, for better operation of the Yatra, the number of offline registrations should be increased to five thousand per day. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi directed the Garhwal Commissioner to take positive action in the matter.
