Bageshwar by-election is going to prove important for Congress in many ways. For State Congress President Karan Mahara as well as Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya, it is no less than a time of examination. If the performance of the Congress is good in this by-election to be held for the reserved assembly seat, then the main opposition party can remain in a position of double advantage. With this, the morale of the party will also increase in both the Lok Sabha seats of Kumaon Mandal including Almora parliamentary seat (reserved).
Congress is very serious about Bageshwar by-election. Through its performance in the by-election, the party is also adjusting the equations of the Almora parliamentary seat. Due to the reserved seat for Scheduled Castes, the party will be able to get an idea of the grip on Scheduled Caste voters.
Second by-election after the election
This is the second by-election after the assembly elections in 2022, in which the party’s state president Karan Mahara and Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya are also to be tested. Before this, Champawat by-election has been held last year. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself was the candidate in this by-election.
Mahara and Yashpal stuck in Bageshwar
The Bageshwar seat has fallen vacant after the death of cabinet minister Chandan Ram Das. Despite having a strong majority government in the state, the BJP is not taking this election lightly, so the main reason for this is the challenge it is facing from the Congress. State President Karan Mahara and Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya are standing in Bageshwar assembly constituency to give a tough fight to the BJP.
Congress wants to give a tough fight in the elections
However, just before the election, the main opposition party has been shocked by the departure of former Congress candidate Ranjit Das to BJP, the party is trying to answer this in the form of a close fight in the election. That’s why the party has bet on Basant Kumar, who performed better on his own in the last assembly elections as BSP and AAP candidate.
Attempt to create anti-incumbency factor against BJP
The Congress is trying its best to project this by-election as an anti-incumbency factor against the Pushkar Singh Dhami government and the BJP. Along with the by-elections, preparations are on to take forward this factor as a major issue in the civic body elections and then in the Lok Sabha elections as well.
