BJP has prepared a panel of three names for the by-election to Bageshwar assembly seat, which is being sent to the Central Parliamentary Board. The names of the panel were approved in the meeting held on Thursday night in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and State President Mahendra Bhatt. BJP State President Bhatt said that on the lines of Champawat by-election, the party candidate will win Bageshwar also by a record number of votes.
The Bageshwar assembly seat has fallen vacant due to the death of cabinet minister Chandan Ram Das. A panel of three names was unanimously prepared in the State Parliamentary Board meeting held at Bijapur Guest House and then at Chief Minister’s residence on Thursday night.
Former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, State General Secretary Organization Ajay Kumar, former State President and MLA Madan Kaushik, Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Mahila Morcha State President Asha Nautiyal also participated in the meeting. According to sources, a total of five names were discussed for the panel.
Two of these names belonged to the relatives of Late Ram Das. In the meeting, three names were decided for the panel, in which two other names have been included besides a relative of Late Chandan Ram Das. It is more likely that the party should nominate the kinsman of Late Ram Das as its candidate.
Talking to the media, State President Mahendra Bhatt said that the party has been preparing for this by-election for two months. There, from the organizational point of view, meetings at Shakti Kendra and booth level, Chief Minister Dhami’s programs and state office bearers’ stay have already been completed.
As part of the process of candidate selection, the Vidhansabha Election Management Team discussed the names of the possible contenders and handed them over to the State Parliamentary Board, on which a panel of three names is being sent to the Central Parliamentary Board after discussing all aspects. He said that the date of nomination will be announced soon after the central leadership decides on the name.
