Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has written to Union education and skill development minister Dharmendra Pradhan, asking to designate Tehri Hydro Engineering College (THEC) in Tehri district as the hill campus of IIT-Roorkee.
In a letter dated January 12, the CM highlighted Tehri’s potential as a tourist spot nationally and internationally. He also emphasised the significant benefits this move would bring to the state. Referring to a Union education ministry letter dated June 30, 2023, stating each state having one IIT, the CM said, “Considering this, we request THEC as the hill campus of IIT-Roorkee.” BJP’s Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay, who previously met with the CM regarding this matter, said, “Due to land availability and the one-IIT-per-state policy, we asked THEC as IIT-Roorkee’s campus.” Kautilya Singh
