Bageshwar Bypoll: Riding on the wave of sympathy in the Bageshwar by-election, the BJP was finally forced to fight hard. The strategy of the Congress was to keep the ruling party engaged. The tussle between the two parties can be gauged from the fact that as the polling date nears, the BJP countering the opposition’s complaints raised questions on the role of the central observer of the Election Commission. Enthusiastic about this electoral battle, the eyes of the Congress are fixed on the voting taking place today.
Congress is fighting the by-elections under a strict strategy
The Congress is contesting the by-election on the Bageshwar reserved seat (Scheduled Caste) vacant after the death of cabinet minister Chandan Ram Das under a strict strategy. The main opposition party has taken this by-election as a preparation before the Lok Sabha elections. This is the reason why the Congress left no stone unturned on its part to cut every bet of the BJP.
BJP adopted the trick of sympathy
Keeping in mind the wave of sympathy arising from the demise of Cabinet Minister Chandan Ram Das, who was MLA from this seat for four consecutive terms, BJP fielded his wife Parvati Devi. In response, Congress stressed on not allowing the by-election to be one-sided. Mahara and Arya camped to place a bet on a strong candidate. The party attracted Bansat Kumar, who was considered relatively stronger from outside, into its fold and then did not waste any time in making the candidate.
Preparation before Lok Sabha
Sensing the challenge being faced by the government and the ruling party, State Congress President Karan Mahara and Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya remained firm in the area during the entire by-election. Keeping an eye on the Almora parliamentary seat, the Congress is taking this by-election as a preparation before the next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
Almora parliamentary seat is also reserved
Bageshwar assembly constituency is under Almora parliamentary seat. Almora parliamentary seat is also reserved. If the results of the Bageshwar by-election remain in favor of the Congress, then the party is sure to get new energy. Keeping this in mind, the party focused on making inroads in more number of voters and gave the responsibility of campaigning to big leaders in five booths each.
