The Dhami government can call a session of the Assembly in the last week of January or the first week of February to pass the bill related to the Uniform Civil Code. The session is being discussed after the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) on January 22. During the session, a bill will also be presented in the House for 10 percent horizontal reservation in government services to Uttarakhand state construction agitators and their dependents.
Government will take further steps after receiving the report
Uttarakhand will be the second state in the country and the first state in the country after independence to implement the Uniform Civil Code. The Dhami government constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai to prepare a draft of the Uniform Civil Code. The committee has finalized its report. However, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai Committee has not yet submitted its report on Uniform Civil Code to the state government. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made it clear that after receiving the report, the government will take steps in this regard. Earlier, it was being considered to call the assembly session in the current month of December itself. It was believed that Uniform Civil Code and reservation bills for state agitators and dependents could be passed in the session. On December 3, out of the five states, BJP won the assembly elections in three Hindi states, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan with an overwhelming majority.
After nine months of preparation, the two-day Global Investors Conference was concluded on December 9. In such a situation, the government is also considering new dates for organizing the assembly session in the changed circumstances. Lok Sabha elections are also to be held next year. At the government level, it is now being considered to convene the assembly session in the last week of January or the first week of February.
