As nine people have died in separate rain-related incidents across Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday took stock of the situation and directed all district magistrates to be on alert. The government is keeping an eye on the disaster situation arising out of continuous heavy rains in the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the State Emergency Operation Center located at the Secretariat on Wednesday and inquired about the situation. He instructed all the District Magistrates that in view of the disaster, the district administration should be kept in alert mode for 24 hours. Along with this, he asked the associate organizations to maintain coordination, so that in case of any emergency, rescue and relief work can be done quickly.
Chief Minister Dhami talked to the District Magistrates of Rudraprayag, Pauri, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts over phone and inquired about the excess rainfall and water-logging. He directed that all proper arrangements should be made in advance for the residents of sensitive places in terms of disaster. He asked the Secretary Disaster Management to maintain constant contact with the District Magistrates.
Whatever requirements the districts have for disaster management, they should be made available. He also instructed the officials that effective steps should be taken to restore them as soon as possible in case of road, water and electricity disruptions due to heavy rains. Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Secretary Disaster Management Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha, Vinay Shankar Pandey, Additional Chief Executive Officer of State Disaster Management Authority Ridhim Agarwal and other officers were present in the meeting.
