The confusion created after delimitation in Dehradun Municipal Corporation has not been resolved yet, but now it is the turn of OBC survey in all the wards. The Municipal Corporation will conduct OBC survey on the basis of 2018 voter list. Regarding the civic elections, the government is now preparing to decide the reservation of wards by conducting a survey as soon as possible. However, new voters settled in the wards in the last six years will not be included in this survey. Earlier, the census report of 2011 was also made the basis for delimitation of wards. Whereas, the current number of voters in most of the wards of the city has doubled.
Surveys and reports far from reality
Due to lack of fresh data, the arrangements of Dehradun Municipal Corporation are running on the old pattern and most of the surveys and reports are far from reality. The common people have to bear the brunt of this. The civic body is not providing facilities and arrangements in the wards according to the current population.
Fresh delimitation process started
Recently, the Uttarakhand government has claimed in the Nainital High Court that it will complete the civic elections by October 25. But, even before this, the process of fresh delimitation of the wards of Dehradun Municipal Corporation has been started. In this, some population from the big wards was included in the smaller wards to balance the wards. There is also opposition from all sides regarding this. Now preparations are on for a survey to decide OBC reservation. For which the Municipal Corporation can start the exercise from today. According to sources, the new OBC survey will be done on the basis of the voter list of the year 2018. Whereas, since then, about one lakh 30 thousand voters have increased.
Among them, a large number of OBC voters are also there. However, it is difficult to say when all the processes related to the election will be completed, but political experts are claiming that the election will be postponed.
OBC survey will be done in those wards where delimitation will change
On the ongoing exercise of the Municipal Corporation to change the geography of the wards of Dehradun, the Municipal Corporation prepared a delimitation report by making partial changes in the population of 72 out of 100 wards of the city. The corporation declared 20 wards as per the standards and no change could be made in eight wards due to their proximity to Cantt/Municipality. All the wards were divided according to the standard according to the population of 8000 (only 10 percent more or less). OBC survey will now be done in these 72 wards.
Municipal elections pending for nine months, public works affected
On December 2, after the term of the Municipal Corporation Board ended, an administrator was appointed. Earlier it was said that the municipal elections could not be held in the name of Lok Sabha elections. But, after the completion of six months, the term of the administrator was again extended for three months. Now about nine months have passed and the situation regarding the elections is not clear yet. The common people are bearing the brunt of this. From street lights to cleaning, construction work and beautification work, nothing is being done. Apart from this, the common people are not able to get many works related to the councillors done.
