Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to make Aadhaar card, ration card and Ayushman card by running a campaign at tehsil level for destitute children free from child labour. He said that the system of mobile schools should be effectively implemented for the education of children of workers, especially those working in the mining sector. He also directed the District Magistrates to collect data of girls dropping out of school after class eight with the help of the School Education Department to prevent child marriage in the state. In the review meeting related to child labor at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi suggested forming an Umbrella Committee under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate in place of various committees at the district level to stop child labor in the state and for the welfare, good education and upbringing of orphan children. He asked the District Magistrates to continuously monitor the progress of destitute and children freed from child labor during their rehabilitation. He also directed to upload the data of children rescued under Operation Mukti in all the districts on the CISS portal in the prescribed format.
Along with this, he said that a joint task force should be formed to stop child begging and drug use by children, especially in Dehradun area. Along with stopping child marriage in the districts, education and good upbringing of girls should be encouraged through Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Fund.
133 cases of child labor and 22 cases of child marriage registered.
In the meeting, the police department informed that 133 cases of child labor and 22 cases of child marriage have been registered in the state in the last three years. There is a need to effectively implement the JJ Act in the state. Additional Secretary Home Nivedita Kukreti, DIG P Renuka Devi and District Magistrates and Senior Superintendents of Police of all the districts were present in the meeting through virtual medium.
